B&R Enclosures Supports Rio Tinto’s Robe Valley Operations
B&R Enclosures has successfully supplied a wide range of enclosures to Rio Tinto’s iron ore mine in Robe Valley, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The opportunity arose after Civmec Ltd, a leading construction and engineering services provider, was awarded a major contract with Rio Tinto to expand the Mesa A operational hub within the Robe Valley.
Leveraging its strong relationships within the mining sector, B&R partnered with Civmec and a local electrical integrator to deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose enclosure solutions for the project. This collaboration supported Rio Tinto’s broader goal of sustaining production capacity at its Robe Valley joint venture through the development of new mining deposits and supporting infrastructure across the Mesa A and Mesa J hubs.
Under the contract, B&R was tasked with supplying a diverse range of enclosures to meet several specific applications, including junction boxes, welding outlet boxes, and marshalling boxes.
To meet these varied requirements, B&R provided enclosures from multiple product ranges, including the Pilbara SP, Finucane FI, Connector TE, and TEMF series.
The local electrical integrator—responsible for installing switchgear and other electrical equipment—worked closely with B&R to deliver complete, compliant solutions under Civmec’s contract for Rio Tinto.
B&R worked collaboratively with Civmec and the local integration partner to ensure all enclosures were optimally specified and fit-for-purpose.
By providing detailed guidance on correct part selection and compatible gland plates, B&R helped eliminate inefficiencies and prevented costly rework caused by ordering mismatched components.
Each gland plate recommendation was tailored to the enclosure material and intended application, ensuring compliance with IP (ingress protection) ratings and maintaining long-term equipment integrity in harsh conditions.
B&R successfully delivered and supported the integration of more than 400 enclosures for use across the Robe Valley site. These enclosures now house termination boards, junction boxes, and control stations, and were all supplied, integrated, and installed in line with Rio Tinto’s project schedule.
The collaboration continues today, with B&R receiving ongoing orders and maintenance work as Rio Tinto expands operations within the Robe Valley.
Built to withstand Australia’s toughest environments, B&R’s enclosures are engineered for durability, offering resistance to extreme heat, dust, and corrosive coastal air.
Rio Tinto has commended the high standard and resilience of the enclosures, which has contributed to continued collaboration and further opportunities within the mining sector.
