Energising the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1

B&R Enclosures was engaged by Eleserve to supply custom metering distribution boards for the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1, a 12 km light rail line connecting Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD.

Eleserve, responsible for the underground power network, required robust, compliant, and easy-to-install power distribution solutions. B&R designed and manufactured four metering distribution boards in 2021 for Stage 1, followed by an additional 19 boards for Stage 3. All designs were based on Parramatta Light Rail and Parramatta City Council specifications and approved by the project’s engineers.

Each board was built using B&R’s Monarch IP enclosure system — IP66-rated for outdoor environments — and fabricated from 316 stainless steel with an orbital-sanded finish, delivering the required aesthetic and corrosion resistance. The end-to-end turnaround, from design approval to manufacture, was approximately eight weeks.

The successful delivery of Stage 1 led to B&R’s continued engagement for Stage 3, with boards produced in smaller sets to streamline installation. B&R’s work also attracted new opportunities including a commission from Fairfield City Council for similar boards finished in powder-coated mild steel to match its infrastructure.

Now fully operational since late 2024, the Parramatta Light Rail relies on infrastructure like B&R’s metering boards to provide reliable, safe power distribution across its network.
