Smart, Safe and Secure: B&R’s Tailored Data Cage Solution for Polaris
Dalkia, facility managers of the Polaris Data Centre, required a secure and compliant way to segregate customer co-location space. To meet this need, B&R Enclosures delivered a fully customised 36-metre security data cage, completing the design, supply and installation within a six-week timeframe.
Customers operating within a shared data hall need physical separation to ensure privacy, asset protection and compliance with data centre security standards. The solution also had to provide easy access and avoid interference with existing overhead systems.
B&R engineered a robust data cage using 2.7m powdercoated zincanneal steel sheets with 30mm² cutouts, securely fixed to the floor and ceiling using stainless steel hardware and 50mm RHS vertical posts. A strong horizontal frame structure completed the enclosure, while custom sliding doors with an overhead roller system preserved clear floor space. By eliminating floor tracks, the design removed tripping hazards and met the centre’s OH&S requirements. Pre-punched provisions for the customer’s specified locking system allowed fast and straightforward integration.
The result exceeded customer expectations, with Dalkia identifying B&R as its preferred supplier for future cage projects. The success of this installation also highlighted a growing need in the data and security market for complete, turnkey data-centre cage solutions, enabling B&R to expand its offering and replicate this installation model across broader markets.
