Delivering Secure ICT Systems for Gold Coast University Hospital

B&R Enclosures continued to build on its expertise in healthcare ICT by securing the tender for the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH). With security, airflow and long-term reliability as key priorities, B&R delivered a customised data infrastructure solution to support the hospital’s extensive clinical and administrative systems across the new $1.76 billion, 750-bed facility.

After a comprehensive 12-month tender process, B&R was selected to supply the central data centre as well as several critical data infrastructure locations throughout the hospital. Their proven performance on previous Queensland Health projects, combined with strong partnerships with UXC and Anixter, reinforced confidence in B&R’s ability to deliver on a project of this scale.

Within the main data centre, B&R provided a tailored solution featuring 70 Ausrack Plus cabinets equipped with vertical brush inserts, a custom air duct system and PDU brackets. Airflow efficiency and physical security were central to the design. Blanking panels were incorporated to prevent hot air recirculation, helping maintain stable operating temperatures. To further strengthen access control, B&R engineered custom lockable cable zone covers, which also improved installation quality by keeping cable routing organised and contained. Integrating cable zones directly into the rack design enabled installers to create clean, consistent looms and streamline cross-cabinet cabling.

Delivery to site was staged over two consecutive months, with specialised freight management ensuring all equipment arrived in original condition and ready for immediate installation. Since project completion, B&R has continued to provide follow-up support, confirming that the data centre and associated infrastructure remain operating at optimum performance.
