Marine-Grade Aluminium Cabinets for the Peninsula ECO Project
The Peninsula ECO Project involved the construction of 15.4 km of transfer main and pump stations as part of the Southern Mornington Peninsula Backlog Sewerage Scheme, known as the Peninsula Early Connection Offer (Peninsula ECO) Transfer System. This system transfers sewage from Rye, Blairgowrie, Sorrento, and Portsea to the Boneo Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
B&R was contracted to supply enclosures to provide mechanical protection for above-ground air valves and carbon canisters.
The project was driven by the need to provide sewerage connections for over 16,000 properties, addressing pollution caused by failing household septic tanks that were contaminating groundwater, waterways, and the surrounding environment.
B&R’s design solution needed to combine high integrity for vandal resistance, adequate ventilation, and aesthetic appeal suitable for high-visibility locations.
After close collaboration on the specified drawings, B&R delivered a custom range of single, double, and four-door 3 mm marine-grade aluminium cabinets. The cabinets were painted to SEW’s “Eucalyptus Green” standard and fitted with padlockable swing handles and stainless steel hardware, prioritising both security and quality.
A key differentiator in B&R’s solution was the use of marine-grade aluminium. With increasing demand for aluminium, B&R has designed both standard and custom aluminium cabinets for clients including Ansaldo, Coffs Harbour, Fremantle Ports, and Victoria Roads.
The advantages of 3 mm marine-grade aluminium include superior corrosion resistance in marine environments, low density, and excellent thermal conductivity for high-exposure locations. Its lighter weight also reduces freight and installation costs compared with stainless steel or zinc-coated steel.
Building on an established relationship with SEW, B&R became the preferred supplier for the FHDB partnership. Their extensive experience in the water utilities sector, combined with design advice in the early stages, flexible project delivery, trading terms, and order management, provided exceptional value to the client.
A single, reliable point of contact from B&R ensured smooth communication and seamless project execution from start to finish, meeting all stakeholder requirements.
Overall, the Peninsula ECO Project was successfully delivered, with custom cabinets built to specification and installed on schedule.
