Pre-Treatment Process

Most of our powdercoated products are manufactured using zinc-coated steel, which includes a continuous hot-dip zinc coating (20 microns) for enhanced corrosion resistance.

The pre-treatment process consists of four stages:

  1. Stage 1 & 2 – Cleaning and Phosphating:
Removes oils and grease, then applies an Iron Phosphate coating to improve paint adhesion and ensure even coverage.

  2. Stage 3 – Fresh Water Rinse:
A pressurised rinse using recirculated fresh water.

  3. Stage 4 – Final Seal Rinse:
Applies a final sealing coat to prepare the surface for powdercoating.

We conduct regular Titration Tests on phosphate tanks to ensure compliance with specifications set by our pre-treatment chemical and powdercoat suppliers.

Quality Control & Testing

Our coatings undergo a series of strict tests to ensure durability, adhesion, and compliance with Australian standards.

1. Powdercoat Thickness Test

  • Ripple Finish: Average 100 microns
  • Gloss Finish: Average 70 microns
  • Minimum Thickness:
    • Exterior: 90 microns
    • Interior: 60 microns
  • Complies with AS/NZS 4506:2005
  • Measured with calibrated paint inspection gauges to ensure accuracy.

2. Cure Test (Solvent Resistance Method)

  • Confirms that the powdercoating is fully cured.
  • Tested against known cured panels.
  • Complies with AS/NZS 4506:2005

3. Adhesion (Cross Cut Test)

  • Ensures strong adhesion between the coating and substrate.
  • Complies with AS/NZS 1580.408.4:1993

4. Paint Colour Comparison

  • Every powdercoat batch is visually compared against approved colour samples.
  • Samples are calibrated to match AS 2700-2011 standards or customer-supplied references.
