Plastic Enclosure Flammability
UL 94 Flammability Ratings
Plastic enclosures are rated for flammability using the UL 94 standard. The most common classifications are listed below, from highest flame resistance to lowest.
5VA (Surface Burn)
Burning stops within 60 seconds after five applications of a flame for 5 seconds each (using a larger flame than the vertical burn test). Test specimens must not have burn-through holes.
5VB (Surface Burn)
Burning stops within 60 seconds after five applications of a flame for 5 seconds each (using a larger flame than the vertical burn test). Test specimens may have burn-through holes.
V-0 (Vertical Burn)
Burning stops within 10 seconds after each of two flame applications of 10 seconds each to a vertical test specimen. No flaming drips are permitted.
V-1 (Vertical Burn)
Burning stops within 30 seconds after each of two flame applications of 10 seconds each to a vertical test specimen. No flaming drips are permitted.
V-2 (Vertical Burn)
Burning stops within 30 seconds after each of two flame applications of 10 seconds each to a vertical test specimen. Flaming drips are permitted.
HB (Horizontal Burn)
Slow horizontal burning on a specimen. For materials less than 3 mm thick, the burn rate must be less than 76 mm/min (3 in/min), or the flame must extinguish before reaching the 100 mm mark. HB is the lowest UL 94 classification and provides the least flame resistance.

Polynova PU
An IP66 enclosure designed for use in harsh environments or where easy visual inspection is required. Suitable for low voltage (LV) double insulated applications.
